HI,
I have a P4B533-E mobo and have wanted to increase the RAM. I have 2 512s at the moment and have one slot left. I tried to buy the DDR400 that the ones I have in are but was told they are not made anymore and that the DDR PC3200 is backward incompatible anyway. I bought a 1GB stick of the PC3200 but when inserting it got a one long beep, space then another long beep etc. I tried it in every slot even by itself but still the same beep. Sounds like it is NOT compatible. Can I have some help here please? Thanks Rock ![]() |

I have an ASUS P4B533-E too. IIRC you can only use single sided DDR RAM in the 3rd slot. HTH NBK |

Ah Haaa.........
How crazy is that? Can it be the the later DDR's like the 3200 as long as it is one sided? Thanks Rock ![]() |

Re: Help with DDR for P4B533-E
I just found this site where you can get a scan to see what RAM you have and what you can upgrade with.
This is my page for my P4B533-E Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Determine My Memory Needs This says I am able to use the 3200's and that I should be able to insert the 1GB I have. I wonder what the one beep is when i do this? Maybe because it is 2 sided? Rock ![]() |

Re: Help with DDR for P4B533-E
Oh well. I will try it again by itself. If it still gives one beep, it either is faulty or there is something Bios that stop a 1GB stick being used.
Anyone know whether that latter may be the case on the p4B533-E board? Thanks Rock ![]() |

Re: Help with DDR for P4B533-E
Well I tried again.. Took the 2 512's out and placed the 1GB 3200 in slot 1 and booted. It went fine so added a 512 in slot 2 and that too was fine.
But.. When I tried to add another 512 to slot 3, I got the long beep pause beep. I tried 2 different 512 sticks and still the same. Would there be a place in Bios that would cause this? I looked but couldn't see anything. It seems strange that slot 3 wont accept anything I have. Any help please as I do need to kick this thing up to the 2GB max RAM Thanks Rock ![]() |

Hi
Check page 2-11 in your P4B533-E manual for further info on why you cannot install a double-sided DDR DIMM in slot 3. HTH NBK Last edited by NBK; 11-01-2007 at 12:17 PM.. Reason: left out info |
