Why is AVG so slow now?

I've been running AVG Free for a long time. It automatically downloads and scans each day.

It used to take a little over two hours to do a thorough scan of all my drives. Starting about a week ago, it now takes over seven hours! I didn't change any settings! What happened? Can I fix this? Was there a new more intensive update a week ago?

Maybe try to un-install it and re-install it.

Nothing that severe from one day to the next I would think. Triple the duration time?

AVG is one of the few programs that sits on my OS partition (10 gigs of files) and that gets defragged frequently.

I was thinking of that but wouldn't I lose my scan history and such?

I discovered the problem.

At the bottom of the AVG Scanning Progress window it shows the file that the antivirus program is currently scanning. Almost everytime I looked the same file was showing there. So I searched for it. The file did not exist. I opened up the ReCycle Bin and there it was. So I cleared the Recycle Bin and now all is back to normal scanning times.

Re: Why is AVG so slow now?

That's a pretty huge bug. You should let Grisoft know about it.

I have not encountered

something like that. Basically I turn-off the automatic scanning and I perform it once per month (for example).
