this months PC Gamer UK review gave it a score of 90%

"Follow the games main quest and it will all be over in under 10 hours and you will be very disappointed.

So where does that leave us with a game that many will dislike? and some even hate, for its grey even depressing world. A game that when played through quickly will repel.

DO NOT rush this game, the rewards in Fallout 3 are from playing the game as teh developers intended, complete every side quest, explore every area of the map, do not reload from your last save point when your running low on health.

Fallout 3 rewards the player who plays as if he were stranded in ths glorious post apocalyptic wasteland, the player who scrounges every corner of every room for that vital stimpack, who knows that a puddle of water could be the difference between that final chunk of health and a short boost. At times like this when you play the game as if your life depended on it the devestated land comes to life, full of possibilities behind the dusty grey appearance, when your only goal is survival Fallout 3 becomes sublime."

Re: Fallout 3

Following only the main quest is kind of like turning an RPG into a first person shooter. Any of them are much shorter if you skip the side quest content (which varies, depending on the RPG).

Re: Fallout 3

"The PC version of Fallout 3 is gorgeous. The colours are vivid, the draw distance is endless, the textures are high-res and the lighting effects are beautifully subtle, especially when you're gazing over the Capital Wasteland at sunset. It's the best-looking of the three.

The Xbox 360 version's textures are noticeably rougher than on PC, and objects in the distance aren't quite as clear. It does, however, boast an impressively solid frame rate. The game is, otherwise, identical.

NOW, the PS3 version looks the same as on Xbox, but things in the distance are slightly jaggier/rougher, the textures seem 'muddier' up-close and the frame rate is choppier, especially during the last few story missions (which may be the same on Xbox, but we've not seen the equivalent scenes to comment). We won't spoil anything, but the set-pieces here are MASSIVE, and the engine quivers under the weight of what's happening. "

Re: Fallout 3

He he. They called the PS3 version "rubbish" and then in the follow-up article described the differences as "minutiae of textures, and visible - but negligible - draw distance occurrences." It looks like someone talked to someone else.

Well there is slight evolution of the genre... survival shooters introduce RPG elements which in turn require some story elements... and of course games are being adopted more and more by the massess now... and of course our populations are aging ...

so heres hoping that at some point some vendor will put out an adult game and then the floodgates will break...

is this really that shocking to the author of that article?...has there ever been a console game that has looked better then its PC counterpart?...even the most highly hyped console games don't compare to when their PC equivalents are released---example, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect

now if the PS3 version of Fallout3 had been the best of the 3 then I would have written that article...that's like saying the sun is going to rise tomorrow...tell me something I don't know already

Best Buy is having a midnight launch at select stores tonight...I'm thinking about going as it's not too far from my apartment but then again I'm not in that big of a rush (especially with Far Cry 2 occupying my gaming time)

Select Best Buy stores holding Fallout 3 midnight launches - Joystiq

Re: Fallout 3

After reading the manual (you don't need to purchase to have access), I am convinced they messed this game up.

1) Humor is not as good. cf. new manual to old ones.

2) There is no downside to anything. Some of fallout's charm came from the fact that there were downsides, none of the perks have down sides.

3) Bethesda is Bioware East. Lawbringer - increased karma for bringing in a finger - Makes no sense, seems like it was added because there was a similar evil perk. Every good/evil decision does not need to be completely balanced.

oh well. I was really trying to convince myself that all the negative hype was just that -- but it really seems like this is a dumbed down game.

which will still most probably be a very good game...just like Oblivion was pretty good on its own merits without the burden of trying to live up to its predecesors and the constant chorus of fanboys crying about how this new version cannot compare to the previous games...it's called evolution of gameplay...if you want all the exact elements and features from Fallout 1 or Elder Scrolls 1 then go play those old games...I think the Fallout fanboys have stocked up on notebook pads and ball point pens ready to nitpick every last petty detail that is even slightly different or changed from the older games...

"noooo...the color of the on screen HUD is different...complete failure"

"noooo...there is an extra button on my characters shirt...epic suckage"

"noooo...I can't choose the color of my characters eyebrows...Bethseda sucks!"

one more thing...the fact that Fallout 3 has removed the auto-leveling of enemies is a great design move...should make the game a bit more appealing to Oblivion-haters...so you can go and get your **** kicked right out of the Vault
