The difference is 30+ additional pages of something. Plus the hard cover durability.

One cannot get by without a hint book in a Bethesda game. They put too much in and it's too easy to miss too many things.

I'd rather find things on my own rather then use a hint or cheat book...by following a book it takes away a lot of the exploration aspect as you're just reading instructions on where exactly to go...not as much fun in my opinion

Many of the reviews say to find things on your own and just explore ... then read the guide and go back and see what you missed.

That's what I do for Oblivion, etc. It's amazing how many things get missed! Even complete quests! I paid for the game and that includes I paid to see everything that's in the game. I want to make sure I get to see all that I paid for.

I usually do that after I play the game through once or twice...I then read a walkthrough during my next playthrough that shows me everything I missed...you're right that you pay to see everything the game has to offer but I just prefer to do that later on

I was amazed too trav, but it really looks good anyway...it's a very optimized version of the oblivion engine and actually runs MUCH smoother..

anyone complete the 'Blood Ties' mission? (see screenshot 1)...I'm trying to find that kid Ian who was kidnapped but the map doesn't give their location...anyone know where 'The Family' is hiding?

anyone found Vault 106?...interesting stuff going on down there

I still havn't decided whether ot not to disarm the bomb or nuke Megaton because I'm still doing some optional quests from there...the Moira Brown 'Wasteland Survival Guide' quest is huge...I've done 3-4 subquests for her already and am going to try and complete them all...for her latest experiment she wanted me to contract 600 doses of radiation poisoning...I did it and as a reward I got a Bonus Perk added (see screenshot 2)

I ffinally figured out how to turn on some light at night!...used to be so dark at night that it made exploring very difficult as I could not see things very clearly (due to the lack of flashlights of any kind in the game)...I ended up doing the majority of my quests during the daytime and sleeping or 'waiting' at night...but now I finally can explore and attack at night again!...if anyone else wants to know just say the word

check out this 'before' and 'after' screenshot of the same scene, one with no lights and one with...big difference

Can't (read won't ) get any more specific than this without doing spoiler, which I know you don't want....so talk to the ghouls that run the ultrajet lab (if you have found it), story is a good branch with some interesting decisions...cheers!

I made it out of the vault!!!

I think I did OK in there. Found extra bobby pins and a lot of ammo before I left. I hope that's all the key things I'll need from there to take "out there". I am now standing on the cliff outside the Vault 101 door.

I do have the 496 page hint book but haven't read it yet. It comes with a 2'x3' two sided map. But there must be a good online map of the Capital Wastelands somewhere.

cool...I havn't gotten that option...sounds interesting...so many unique paths you can take in this game and just another reason why I love Fallout 3...2 people can play the exact same character but will have completely different storylines

I remember finding quite a few things in The Vault...don't forget to check all the lockers, desks, cabinets etc for stuff...also make sure to take one of the better vault suits

just checked my in-game clock to see how long I've been playing--17 hours 22 minutes...what's amazing is that after checking my 'World Map' I've discovered maybe 10-15% of the map...at this rate I'm looking at maybe 200 hours of game time...currently I have 5 active quests in my Pip-Boy

I officially love this game...even better then Oblivion...while the game does bare a similarity to Oblivion in terms of gameplay the world of Fallout 3 is just much more interesting and alive

-the combat system is close to perfect...V.A.T.S is the new standard for combat...brilliantly executed, and the beauty is you don't have to use it if you don't want to...you can just use the standard FPS combat...but you're missing out as once you start using it you'll be hooked

-the dungeons in Oblivion all felt kinda similar while in Fallout 3 almost every building, sewer, location feels unique and totally different from each other...I love exploring and always travel by foot and never use Fast Travel (I used Fast Travel a few times only when my Health got very low and I fast traveled to a certain location which had a free bed to sleep in which healed me back to 100%)

I could go on and on...do yourself a favor and play this game

Yeah, I think the difference is only artwork, not content.

I got the good circuit city deal on the book. But like the others here, I plan to play through once, then give it a second go with the book.

Then you'll be using the book tomorrow?

According to several sources including the Guide Book author, it takes 75 to 120 minutes to complete the Main Quest. 500 hours to do all the rest.

Quote:
"Recently at the office, we had a Fallout 3 speed run competition
to see who could complete the game in the shortest amount of time.
The winning time was 75 minutes. Given the amount of time youíve
spent with the game, is it safe to say you could compete with that?

I take my hat off to the chap who was able to finish in that quick a time,
and Iíd postulate that the guy must have played the game at least a dozen
times to remember all the exploits and shortcuts to reach that conclusion.
Iíd come close, but even now, I still canít help going off and exploring other
areas instead of concentrating on a main task at hand!

Iíd also be interested in figuring out how long it takes to complete every
single Quest and witness every occurrence in the game. Although you can
race through in under two hours (Iíve managed around 90 minutes myself),
Iíve seen everything in the Capital Wasteland, and my gameplay time was
upwards of the 500 hour mark. Heck, I spent an entire week in Megaton
alone! Now, thatís with some serious exploring, but it does showcase how
differently you can play the game."

What's the best way to level up in this game?
