mandriva 2009 and ktorrent

i recently installed mandriva 2009 on the pc in my signature. mostly things are good. when i try to download via ktorrent i get really slow speeds, like 20Kb/s. when i used bitlord on windows i easily got 200-300Kb/s on the same hardware. does anyone know why this is? or how i can fix it?

i check the limits on up and down load speeds and there are no limits.

Maybe your ISP is doing traffic shaping which reduces the speed on some protocols like P2P. Some P2P programs like uTorrent and Vuze have the option to encrypt the P2P traffic and this way you get better download speed's. I don't remember if Ktorrent has any kind of protocol encryption but check the program options. My guess is that Bitlord is doing protocol encryption.

Re: mandriva 2009 and ktorrent

i noticed in the config menus that ktorrent uses proxy settings. could that be part of the problem? i did enable protocol encryption. i did notice that i was down to 2Kb/s ><!~ as i write this my upload is between 30 and 40 kb/s and down is fluctuating between 2/3 to 10 kb/s.

Re: mandriva 2009 and ktorrent

no luck increasing speads on ktorrent i on a whim, i gave ubuntu a look. transmissiion is doing a great job, and ubu actually recognizes my camera (which mandriva did not). both distros seem to be equally friendly, so i will probably use ubu. thanks for the help and suggestions.

You might want to give Linux Mint a try, it's based on ubuntu and has everything working out of the box like MP3's, video etc.

I was thinking the same exact thing, whos your provider? I heard AT&T was going to start putting in restrictions with Linux and file sharing.
