Re: 175 Windows 7 Tweaks

I sniffed around my new laptop power settings and found something interesting yesterday (this applies to Windows 7 of course). If you go to your 'Change power settings' and then advanced power settings you will see 'Sleep' settings. Under here you will see an option to allow 'Wake Timers'. Wake timers are a tool for programmers to use but you can set up a wake time for your computer by creating a scheduled task and tell the task to wake the computer. Task Scheduler is in the CP, just create a new task and under Triggers you can specify a time to run the task. Under Conditions you can check the box that tells the task to wake up the computer. This would be very handy for turning on your computer when you are not home to make an auction bid for example.

Re: 175 Windows 7 Tweaks

Task Scheduler is in Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools. Here is a guide for doing it.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/16...-computer.html

There is also a way to shut the computer back down and you can schedule this to occur as many time as you want. This would be good for doing maintanance on your computer at night like running Disk Cleanup, virus scans, Windows updates, etc.

Re: 175 Windows 7 Tweaks

Thanks for the tip Sandog.
I use task scheduler to trigger my SyncToy folder pair runs, during the night, with other maintenance tasks such as virus scans and defrags. Works great.

Re: 175 Windows 7 Tweaks

Got another tipster. Does anybody every slide their mouse over to begin typing on the keyboard and as soon as your hands reach the keyboard the desktop appears? It happens when your mouse hits the bottom right corner and hovers over the 'Show Desktop' button. Well you can right click the 'Show Desktop' button and remove the 'Peek at desktop' checkmark and this annoyance will go away.
