Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Save Even More Money with a TechNet Standard Subscription

Microsoft has provided a new, lower-end version of TechNet called TechNet Standard. This one costs just $200, but provides access to almost all of the same software as TechNet Plus. (Only enterprise-class software is omitted.) So if you're really on a budget but want to learn more about Microsoft software, and need multiple PC installs, this is the new sweet spot....

Even though the subscription lasts only a year, the product keys for the products you have access to won't stop working after a year. So while you will lose download access to those ISOs after a year, as long as you saved copies of them, you can reinstall over and over again. The product keys are forever....

It's for multiple installs. Each product key can be used to install up to 10 versions of the OS or application, for the most part....

That's an incredible value, though it should be noted that this program is designed for a single person. You can't share the product keys with others. What you're getting, essentially, as an individual is multiple, unlimited installs of the products that are included with the subscription ... for yourself .... It's for non-commercial use only.

Thats not entirely correct;
From the licence agreement:

Yes, that is also clearly stated in Mr. Thurrott's article.

So, even though the keys are for "evaluation" purposes only, there is no limit to the time you can "evaluate" the software. Interesting.

Thanks again for the heads up, FV!

Anytime Peter, I'll post the link to the video podcast with Paul and Leo Leporte. It's a weekly deal and pretty entertaining, and Leo and Paul both said it was a good deal from MS for computer nuts (like us) with 4 or 5 computers....If you download the podcast you can go the 59 minute mark and that's where Paul talks about the Tech-Net deal!

I know W7 Enterprise is exactly like W7 Ultimate only Enterprise is a corporate license version, on what else is included I don't know, but I do know you get Windows Vista Ultimate, XP Pro, Windows Server, Office 2010, just about everything MS sells!

Re: Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Save Even More Money with a TechNet Standard Subscript

If MS had done this sooner, I never would have bought the MSDN keys from GeniusBuy. I spent about the same amount of money on multiple Win 7 and Office keys. I could have had access to ALL MS software.
I still may do it...

Re: Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Save Even More Money with a TechNet Standard Subscript

I'm a bit fuzzy about what happens after one year.

Can I still install the s/w and keys I already have on new hardware after the subscription has expired? Or, must I resubscribe to install on more systems?

As I understand it, you can still activate your 10 keys for each prouduct (10x each), after the subscription expires.

Re: Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Save Even More Money with a TechNet Standard Subscript

I just bought a std subscription.

You get access to and Keys for office products, server software, etc.

You can go to the technet site and go to download and you will be able to see whats available but won't be able to down load.

The other anomaly is I tried to download using Firefox and it consistently failed to complete even thought I have good high speed connection. I finally gave up and activated IE 8 and added the MS download manager selected the products to download and it ran all night and completed every download successfully.

The added advantage to the MS download mgr is it verifies the download before completion.

I download win7 ult 86/64, prof 86/64 MS office pro 2010, al the vista version, all xp versions, frontpage, Project, Publisher, outlook etc.

As well as the tech net support CD. All for the price of a win7 pro DVD license. I used a win7 key to activate my win7 7600 trial software.
