Win 7 64 Virtual pc installed

Am running win7 ultimate 64 with Virtual pc installed ( not virtual pc 2007) . Rubbing xp pro 86 in virtual mode. Can access the internet over the wireless n dongle that is installed on the win7 system. Everything seems fine except for-

Burned Cds and DVDS before the install of virtual pc and the Samsung Sh-s 223b would read both dvds and Cds, Now when I burn cdrs under win7 they burn fine but when I try to read them the cd is not recognized. But if I look in the xp pro system the xp system is trying to install the product I just tried to read.

Anyone else run into this ?? Is this some anomaly of this system con fig. I am going to try to kill ( close the xp system and see what happens with the read capability on the host (win 7 system).

Setting all this up some of it was intuitive but a lot of it was not. Like installing Virtual PC 2007 and then Installing Virtual PC .They don't like one another because they perform some of the same functions. But by un installing 2007 nor Virtual PC comes into it's own because USB support is there in this pkg where it wasn't in 2007.

Allows you to attached a usb key or usb drive as native device from the virtual system so anything you want to install can be done from there rather than the shared folder between the host and the virtual system.

OOOps I forgot I was doing this post from the virtual xp system. Doesn't really matter because it works fine.

Re: Win 7 64 Virtual pc installed

Well atl east for now it appears to be working.

I did a xp pro virtual shut down and tried reading on the native win7 system, still could not.

I then rebooted the win 7 system now the cds can be read.

I will try again with the xp pro virtual ssytem enabled. Well see what happens.

Re: Win 7 64 Virtual pc installed

I don't know why you want to burn CD/DVD in Virtual machine -- well, just in case would be fine.

My problem is that, I run XP from 7-64 but I can't exchange files between XP
and 7-64, whether on the same Hard Disk running 7-64 and XP, or on another
Hard Disk.

The Virtual XP can see all partitions on 2 HDDs; but that's it. When return to
7-64, I can't find the folder/directory used in Virtual XP.

Any suggestions? TIAM.

Re: Win 7 64 Virtual pc installed

The sharing is done thru the shared file folder in each of the systems.
But after trying and using a usb key which is seen by both systems it appears to be an easier route.

The issue wasn't that I wanted to burn a cd in the virtual system ( i haven't tried but I am sure it would work.

It was the fact that I was burning on the host system ( win& 64 ) and when it got thru and I wanted to see what files were there,When I tried to view the files The burner drive kept saying there wasn't any media on the drive. There was but the drive wasn't able to recognize a CD-R at least not until I rebooted the host system. Probably because I had just finished installing the xp pro guest system and hadn't rebooted both system to make sure everything was in sync with sharing of real devices.
