Re: Windows 8;

If they would make it to boot to the desktop instead of the smart phone UI that would satisfy me 100%, but then you'd have Win-7 then wouldn't you?

Re: Windows 8;

What microsoft is thinking with this OS. Their betting on the fact that desktop PC's are on the way out. That gaming on a PC is a ever shrinking market, and more and more is the market going the way of tablets and laptops with touch screens of course are on the increase. I'd love to see you playing a game on a laptop with no mouse and touch screen UI. LOL, good luck! Gamers, we are a minority. This is about my point kind of.. http://www.industrygamers.com/news/e...any-platforms/

Yeah I don't understand this deal either, oh well the one thing is you don't have to go to W8, I doubt I will, I'll wait and see, having Technet it won't cost anything if it comes out before my subscription runs out!

Re: Windows 8;

I heard October, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were earlier. My guess is late August/early September. I will not be trying the consumer preview on the 29th.

Re: Windows 8;

I thought they were going to give you the option of booting to either environment.

either the new "Tablet Like" desktop

or

A snazzed up Win 7 like traditional desktop.

In a way....I feel for them.....

They are now between a rock and a hard place....

More and more schools, and mainstream businesses switching to Servers and mobile devices....

They almost HAVE to go this way and try to please everyone and stay afloat.

The Win Mobile Phone (although I think is a pretty good device)....hasn't sold a lick....

They are tied to an old concept and heavier, less mobile hardware. And are trying hard to break out.....but are really, REALLY late to the fight.....

Their "Mobile Strategy" is seemingly nonexistent and the partnership with Yahoo seems to be bleeding money daily.

I don't see a lot of improvement happening.....steady decline instead----in 20 years---ultimately bought by one of the new behemouths as a "niche market"

Headlines in 2032 "Apple Buys Microsoft!" or "Google Buys Microsoft!"----or even worse....."Facebook Buys Microsoft!"

Heck---the way the market is changing----maybe 2022!!

Who wouldda thunk it!!

Re: Windows 8;

Oh and I WILL do Windows 8.....

Why?

Because it's what I do......LOL

Who knows----maybe it will be a hit....

Just not sure how you deploy a tablet like sofware on millions and millions of existing NON-TOUCH SCREEN monitors.....

Are they expecting the common Joe to run out and buy new hardware just to run Win 8 properly?? In THIS economy??

That strategy failed miserably with Vista when the economy was HOT!

but then again----what do I know.....

Re: Windows 8;

I see a google OS in the near future, maybe this year. Microsoft said their biggest competitor is google. Where do you think all those fired MS people went?

Last I read that wasn't the case. Though I would be psyched if it's true!
Win8 + Aero == WIN

Not only that, but how usable would a touchscreen be on a desktop?
Tablet - sure, laptop - hmm, but PC? C'mon! Like I'll be reaching over the desk to tap the icons on my screen.

As for gaming with a touchscreen, there is a big problem - your hand/fingers get in the way!

I guess the technology will be hybrid so I can't see the demise of the mouse or keyboard just yet (although I do expect them to become virtualized projections onto the table top soon).

Re: Windows 8;

Re: Windows 8;

Last post reminds me of something funny and curious.. in the days when I sticked to XP I wouldn't have touched Vista with a pole.. once I got into 7 at some point I started to wonder what Vista would be like and sometimes still get tempted to try Vista One of my main reasons being what does 7 actually offer more than vista.. and what does vista have that 7 doesn't..
And see guys.. I told you Windows 8 tablets touchscreen.. those are no go with games

Windows7 is really Vista/SP2 SE. Now though Windows7/SP1 is the better OS in MHO. Windows8 is not for the desk top gamer PC. I would like to know if anyone that has a laptop to play games on DO NOT use a USB mouse? http://www.osnews.com/story/19793/Wi...uilds-on-Vista

I used Vista 64 bit for a while. I found it to be an excellent OS, and very usable. There were some issues that impacted mostly non-technical users I think that made it unpopular. Some games of the day had issues, but then it was a different OS than XP so that should have been expected by the game studios.

I would think that it should be on par with 7 after all this time

Re: Windows 8;

I ran Vista 64bit for quite a while and was quite happy with it. I actually think Vista 'looked' better than 7. And I think 7 'looks' better than 8.
