Re: The best current game platform?
Yeah I have no problem believing the Z68 plus Sandy Bridge is faster. Matter of fact the whole 4CH DDR and onboard PCI controller on LGA 2011 might be a bunch of smoke and mirrors as well. Intel is making it look bigger like X58 to make it appear more powerful. The X58 was for Nehalem which was the very best platform for the fastest chip at the time. Sandy Bridge is a whole new chip and should be faster. The X79 will be a beefed up X58 with Sandy Bridge married to it and you should be able to achieve the same over-clocks as Z68/Sandy Bridge and probably easier since it will be an enthusiast platform. Like I said before, when Ivy Bridge chips come out with mainstream chipsets early next year they will probably be => X79/Sandy Bridge. One thing I believe that I want to point out with Ivy Bridge CPU's is even though they will have drastic power savings/performance boost, Intel is not going to clock these chips much higher than they already are. I think that when Ivy Bridge comes to socket 2011 (X79/X??) which will have the gates open for OCing, it will be a lot of fun.

Re: The best current game platform?
If we listen to the game developers, the best platform is not PC at all. Its the console.
Obviously "best" means most lucrative in their world.

Re: The best current game platform?
Here is the rub on this IMHO; To develop any game is a whole lot easier in so saying a lot cheaper to write the software for the console. Where as with pc it has to run on umpteen different video cards and well two different proccessors but many different chips. IE; it cost more. If they had it the way it were best for them if PC gamers would/should just go away.

Re: The best current game platform?
Carmack said that the ID Tech engine runs on a common code base and then is translated into executable for each platform, which costs them money of course. That also explains all the recent RAGE issues.

Re: The best current game platform?
Welll technology is supposed to work backwards, normally anyways Like most pc things that means shouldn't games that work on the latest tech work on older generations (not old old probably)
And correct me if Im wrong but gaming on pc has more options like for example graphics, consoles don't have the fancy settings pc versions do (I guess you will haver to depend on the monitor/tv to adjust settings)
