Windows XP, Dual Monitor Setup, Shutdown Button Appears On Wrong Monitor

Hi,

Hope all of you guys had a fabulous New Year !!!

I have a dual monitor setup via an nvidia graphics card. Everything is fine. But my shutdown button panel appears on the wrong monitor. Id prefer it on the start button monitor, for obvious reasons, since even when the power fails, my left monitor and the cpu is only powered by the UPS. So id like to see this and task manager etc appear on the left primary monitor.

Is there anyway i can make these prime windows appear only on the left monitor. Ofcourse ive tried the settings where nividia can memorize different applications and their windows opening position preference. But the problem is i dont know what the application name is for the shutdown panel in windowsxp. Id have to know that to feed it into the nvidia preference panel and then specify that this app/window should appear only on the left.

Any help please ?

Thank You

Re: Windows XP, Dual Monitor Setup, Shutdown Button Appears On Wrong Monitor

You can tell Nvidia in Nvidia control panel which monitor to be the main monitor (monitor 1) which is the left monitor, and the main monitor has the start button and task bar on it, at least in Windows 7, this is on extended desktop. Or you can just switch your monitor cables on the back of the video card? I hope this is what your asking?

Re: Windows XP, Dual Monitor Setup, Shutdown Button Appears On Wrong Monitor

Ive already had it set up that way with the left monitor being designated as the MAIN/PRIMARY monitor. Yet the shutdown button panel only goes to the right side monitor.

I even tried switching the monitor inputs. But then the monitors are topsy turvy. With the right monitor having the start button. And the clock end of the task bar landing on the left monitor. So we will have to invert the monitors again in the nvidia panel to get a correct spanned view. That again lands the shutdown panel on the right only.

This one seems like a fix.

You can move the task-start bar anywhere you want, right click on the start bar and unlock, left click and hold and drag to where you want, I have mine on the left screen on the left side of that screen!

Re: Windows XP, Dual Monitor Setup, Shutdown Button Appears On Wrong Monitor

Im just using win xp pro. I dont kow ifyou can unlock the task bar like that. Tried and even after unlock it doesnt move. Relocating the start button etc doesnt in anyway change the layout of the buttons. In fact reversong the monitor cables does nothing but invert the monitors in an unuseable way. Ofcourse it can be set right in the Nvidia panel. But that again taks the shutdown button to the right monitor only.

Anyway i found a workaround for now. Went into user accounts in win xp control panel and disabled the welcome screen of windows and also opted for the classic logon menu. Now when i click start > turn off > the panel appears on the left correctly. Though its not the typical 3 colored large buttoned shut down pane. But this is a sort of workaround i would say.
