Re: Cloud?

BTW, I'm currently looking for a new job/function, within my original profile (Computer Science), especially in Brazil (everything of mine lies here). Farewell, stock market. Won't refuse different offers, though.

My grounds have always been infrastructure, and Cloud is the logical way to go. I strongly recommend you fellows take EMC's courses/tests, in my case E20-002 (https://education.emc.com/content/_c...d_Services.pdf). Utility computing (Cloud) still have a long way to go through.

Gonna take another exam soon (E20-018), Virtual Infrastructure Specialist/Cloud Architect. Interesting to the point of relegating nourishment. ;-)

If it's meaningful for anyone, have a look at EMC - Certificate Verification - CertMetrics
, verification code 1HQZ850SG1EQ5YXR.

Zap once offered me writing articles for ABX, that I'd do for free, out of plain thankfulness (and exposure, of course).

Re: Cloud?

I use Google Photos for all my photos and its free, I have over 10000 photos on it right now, every digital picture I've took since 2004 is backed up there. It has a free app for Ios, android and your desktop...has soon has you take a picture with your phone it automatically backs it up, every time you load photos from your camera onto your computer it does it instantly....best thing since slice bread!

Re: Cloud?

Free? Dont they serve advertising at you?
As to storage in the cloud, if its secure then its convenient but I can serve my data over the web from my home network instead of storing it all in a foreign country. Nothing to hide except my privacy.

Not on Google Photos, the search function is amazing. type in boats and it will find any picture of boats in my 10000 pictures, same with dogs or anything else....best app I've seen in years, yes it is free for anything picture 16 megapixels or lower, if its over 16 it will downgrade it to 16, which for me is't a problem, you do get 500 gigs of full quality backup....do yourself a favor if you have lots of pictures check it out....by the way if you want to share pictures with others you select which pictures you want to share then Google will provide a link so they can look at or download them....neat

Re: Cloud?

haha such an old topic and "cloud" has become ubiquitous.
We dont say internet services or even web services anymore, its all cloud services. These days I think of cloud services as iaas or saas over the web, so more of a service model perspective than an architecture, but it means multiple things.
For example, people refer to file sharing services as "in the cloud" but they dont mean to say that the service is itself serviced by iaas or saas vendors, but rather that its just on the internet. In that sense "cloud" is synonymous with "internet" for many people.

I still feel its a silly word as a metaphor. Clouds are in the sky, but our internet and web infrastructure is all on the ground, as far as I know.
I guess "internet service" would have been confused with ISP connections. Everyone uses "internet service" when talking about their ISP service.
The term "web" was already being used to refer to the internet business architecture.
"Virtual" was also in use, as in virtual machines.

So someone came up with "cloud" and it just stuck.

[edit] i forgot, theres also the term "online", but that is associated with connecting to the internet, as in "I'm working/going online/offline".

Its funny how some words stick. It has to be the right place at the right time and then we're stuck with it.
