Question Something strange happened?!

I keep my rig on all the time and when I went to use it the screen was black with the message: BOOTMGR missing. My first thought was that my SSD had crashed but when I went into the BIOS I found the boot order had changed from booting from my SSD to one of my storage drives. I changed the boot order back and everything restarted fine (well it went to the windows screen asking if I wanted to boot into safe mode). Has anyone had this happen to them before? Should I be worried? My rig is in my signature.

Thanks.

Edit: Alright, something is seriously wrong with my system. Everything froze on me and it crashed to blue screen. After rebooting my SSD went missing in my BIOS. After rebooting several times it shows back up in my BIOS and I switch the boot order again. It then boots up fine, going straight to the windows safe-mode page. I'm worried my Crucial M4 is dying. How can I check to find out if it is? Is it easy to transfer everything over to one of my storage drives "just in case" I need a new system drive just to start my computer?

Maybe a glitch in the house power? I'd guess if there was any kind of drop or spike the system might take a hit. Did you check the disk for any errors?

No issues with power. What's the best "free" program to check SSDs for errors?

What about CHKDSK? Are you running Windows?

I've read that CHKDSK isn't really applicable to SSDs.

Maybe my Win7 has become corrupt? I left my computer on last night. This morning all that showed was the desktop background. No start button, tool bar or anything else showed. The mouse still worked (could move it around the screen) but right clicking did not. I have not installed any new software or hardware, nor have I visited sites I haven't normally visited or opened strange email.

What's going on?! Help!

SSDlife finds no errors and my firmware is up to date according to Crucial's Firmware Update program.

My computer keeps blue screening and rebooting. When rebooting it doesn't see the SSD. I have to physically turn off the computer and restart it several times for it to "see" the SSD again. However, within the hour it will reboot and I go through the same thing.

This is a similar problem like http://forums.crucial.com/t5/Solid-S...ng/td-p/107678

I did have to update the BIOS. We'll see if that helps

Re: Something strange happened?!

In addition to the other suggestions:
Possibly a bad SATA cable. Try that first.
Possibly a bad SATA port. Try that second.
If those don;t solve the problem, it's possibly a bad SSD. If you have a good image of the C partition, restore it to another HDD and put the HDD on the same cable and port. If the problem is solved, the SSD is bad.

I didn't even think about the SATA cable I'll try that if the problem persists.

Re: Something strange happened?!

BSOD's a lot of times are caused by a memory issue. I would check your memory sticks out for seating and timing/voltages. After that, I would suspect a corrupt Windows or other software messing up writing to your memory. I would use System Restore to go back when you didn't have this issue. If all else fails I would do a complete re-install of Windows. If the problem still persists after a Windows re-install then it is most likely a hardware issue. Good luck!

Re: Something strange happened?!

That's guys. I've changed the SATA cable so I hope that is it. If not I'll try a System Restore. Thanks again
