Yeah, I might chance one PWM fan because the UEFI BIOS nowadays have controls optimized towards PWM fans.

PeterT I know you are fan of Cougar

Here are the NE reviews on all Cougar fans.

My fans are the ones with 57 reviews (5 eggs).

Here are the reviews on the PWM models, I always look at the negative reviews.

Re: New build maybe

Griffy, hope you don't mind all the superfluous info. lol.

I was looking for how you control the CPU and case fans in BIOS.
Here is some Intel Visual BIOS vids.

http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/...iew-video.html

I wouldn't mind going with Intel one last time, it is just that I like the superior onboard audio on the ASUS ROG Formula boards. I will have plenty of time to make a decision.

I don't mind at all. I have looked at those fans and may order a couple. Thanks everyone for all the info.

"The combined noise level of the three fans is quite low, just 24 dBA@1m at full speed, 19 dBA@1m at 9V, and 15 dBA@1m at 7V."

If I were starting out fresh Griff I would just use the stock Corsair 550D fans. I have invested in Cougar fans though and I like them. They have a high pressure rate and have fluid-bearings for low noise and long, long life. I have a Cougar 140mm which I was going to use in the rear. Seeing the back of the 550D, the fan grill looks like it might be somewhat restrictive for a 140mm fan but I will give it a shot. I will also use the Cougar 120mm I have on the Thermalright TRUE 120M CPU heatsink. In keeping fans similar, I was going to purchase 2 new Cougar 120mm fans for the two front case fans. I do not know what type of fan connectors are on the 550D case fans but the Cougar's have long premium-sleeved 3pin plugs.

I just found them here for 10.99 each.

Re: New build maybe

Like PeterT mentioned a while back, the Cougar fans because of their hydro-dynamic bearing may have some noise if placed horizontilly but vertically they are the most quiet fan you can get for the air flow.
