Re: Boot to Desktop on Windows 8!

You can bypass the Windows Loading Screen in MSCONFIG if that is what you mean. If you are referring to bypassing the login then just don't have a password enabled. Am I missing something here?

I just let it boot into Metro and then click on desktop. I have my desktop set up pretty much like I did for Win7 so it is easy to get around in Win8. I aslo have a shut down button in my task bar. Here is a screen shot of my desktop.

But there is still no start menu, so you are forced have lots of icons on the desktop. which I do not like.
Give me 'boot to desktop' & a start menu and I'd use Win 8.

Line from your second link: "Last month, a research firm said a boot-to-desktop feature and start menu are the two options users have requested the most for Windows 8."

Me too, I like using the quick launch for my favorites and have no icons on the desktop except the trash can.

You are right but the desktop I showed you are all the icons I had with Win7 so its not a big deal if I have to mouse to the bottom corner and bring up Metro once in awhile.I will welcome the "boot to desktop & start menu" if it comes...

Re: Boot to Desktop on Windows 8!

I've got Win8.1 installed. Very different but I have managed to maneuver in it some so far. Lots of things about it are better, installation, speed, and others. Now it looks like I am just left with learning how to get around in it. I didn't create an MS account and I found how to boot to the desktop.
All my drivers installed good.

I haven't seen anything related to managing the SSD, where do you do this at Skully?

Re: Boot to Desktop on Windows 8!

Good deal Sandog, if you want to use the metro apps from your desktop and have a easy way to close the metro apps get Modern Mix from Stardock, I tried it and then bought it for $5 its worth it. Plus if you want all your apps to show up when you hit the start button you can do that from the same screen that you selected to boot to desktop...enjoy
