I am feeling the same. The only reason I have so far is better SSD support but I do not mind running Samsung Magician and manually running TRIM from time to time. Been doing it with Intel SSD Toolbox for years. Other than that, Windows 8.1 has hundreds of ways to make life uncomfortable. Drivers have just came out for my system recently, how good do you think they are? Also, I know very little about Windows 8.1 ATT. I will probably wait until it is more mainstream and the OS and 8.1 drivers are dated more.

No they're still there, but now you don't have to ever see it.
I will later on the snapshot, just sitting down to dinner and the laptop is off...

It looks like a Win 7 desktop, but if you click the "start button" you don't get a start menu, you get the Win 8 start screen with the tiles.

Right click on it and you get a bunch of stuff like control panel, shutdown, and all sort of settings, all you have to do is put your favorite programs in the task bar and you there! And this is a guy who's only played with it for a hour, here's a link to a bunch of good stuff on how to tweak it!

Re: What's New in Windows 8.1

Getting it dialed in, boot to desktop, hit the window start key with a left click brings up all your programs and apps, right click on the windows start key lets you go to control panel, shutdown, task manager and a bunch of other stuff.

Wow, I like that. Windows 8.1 here I come.

I finally got my Windows 7 system image backup completed. Now I am not worried about trying Windows 8.

It takes some patience and a lot of googling, but I think in the long run it will be worth it. One thing I found is you don't need a PDF reader its built in, Samsungs SSD software for me worked but then every time I booted after i installed it would auto restart, I did upgrade the firmware on my evo and that was fine, and I also used the Asus software to update to latest bios and that was a piece of cake!

Re: What's New in Windows 8.1

There is a nice feature in Windows 8, that I hope has been kept in 8.1.

If you mouse over to the lower left corner of the desktop and wait for the
Start tile to appear, you can right click it.

This brings up a menu of most of the things a Enthusiast - Tinkerer would want.

* Programs and Features
* mobility center
* Power Options
* Event viewer
* System
* Device Manager
* Disk Management
* Computer Management
* Command Prompt
* Command Prompt (Administrator)
* Task Manager
* Control Panel
* File Explorer

Its still there, and when you click it with the left click you can set it up to show all programs, witch is one less click than W7 ( I know one less but hey it is nice, plus its not just a list of programs they are icons sorted by groups). One other thing it has a built in TRIM that will run on a schedule that you set up.
