Yep, like you said. But he is a "Expert"

I read it as MS is playing catch-up?

Re: What's New in Windows 8.1

Yeah, it was a big leap for MS to come out with W8, now they're paying for it, for us its no big deal we can figure it out but for the common Joe, its CRAZY...lol

Re: What's New in Windows 8.1

Big learning curve huh? All I want to be able to do is surf and download mostly. I have been doing a good job with backups. It shouldn't take me 20min to get back to where I am right here typing with a Windows 7 image backed up if I get frustrated with Windows 8.1.

No not really Sandog once you set it up you'll couldn't tell by looking at your desktop if it was 7 or 8, and like you said you can always go back, but give it a week before you make up your mind!

Re: What's New in Windows 8.1

Just installed Modern Mix and it works great (at least for the little I've used it), here's a screen shot of my desktop with 3 metro apps has shortcuts on the left side, solitaire, weather and a tides app, that I can launch from the desktop...neat....

Re: What's New in Windows 8.1

So the metro windows on Win8 desktop don't already launch the app? Or is it that they are fixed and you cannot put the custom apps on the desktop?

If that is the case then this looks like valuable software.

Going to be so much to learn with Win8. My only caveat is that the OS works. Nothing like having issues and not being familiar with the OS.

Watch the video in the post above Sandog it will explain it better than me... With this software you never have to go into Metro again...

I watched most of it. So if I get it right, you don't see the small Windows on the desktop any longer, you have standard shortcut icons that you open just like Win7?

I will study it a lot later when I get my hands on a copy.

Right you end up with the look and feel of W7 and you get the benfits of W8.1, best of both worlds, I do like some of the Metro apps a lot and I think I've just scratched the surface!

I wouldn't mind having some of the Metro apps showing on the desktop but having the whole desktop covered is not to my liking (yet).

I am so far behind I do not even know what Metro means. I am guessing above that it is the app. windows I am seeing on the desktop. There looks to be too many of them for my liking. They are almost like gadgets. So when you have default Win8 Metro enabled, does it show the running app in the small window like an IE webpage?

This is Metro Start screen, or what I call Metro....there are apps on here that run only full screen and only start from here unless you use the Modern Mix app that I installed....
