Wondering How MS will handle upgrade to Win 8.1

Ok so I heard that Microsoft is gonna offer a free upgrade to Win 8 users for Windows 8.1

But I heard that you will have to get it from the Windows Store.

Cringe, I HATE signing up for anything.

Ok so I wonder what I will be able to get.... a downloadable ISO file?

Or are they gonna pull that crap where they have you download a couple hundred K byte setup file. Where you are supposed to run the setup and the software picks and chooses what to download from the Net.

I really have the sneeky suspicion it will be the latter. I Hate giving control of my machine over to any software. I don't trust companies, or any part of any government.

I hope some way I will be able to generate a DVD from an ISO file.
and then load up a Product-Key they provide in E-mail.

If not I think I will completely abandon Microsoft.

Currently....my steps when I want to install Win 8

Load up Vista 64 bit
Upgrade to Win 8 pro.
Activate win 8 pro
Apply Key to activate Media Center feature
Activate Win 8 Pro with Media Center.

And now I will have to add yet another step?
Microsoft wont let you just load up the Upgrade on a blank disk.
You can install the update, but it won't activate if it wasn't upgraded.
one has to go all the way back to the start of the chain, or restore from a
backup.

M.S is really trying my patients

Re: Wondering How MS will handle upgrade to Win 8.1

I haven't seen anything other than the trial version. I have no key.

I heard that for the trial version one needed an internet connection to sign into their Microsoft account. The final version is supposed to allow you to sign into an LOCAL account.

Bottom line, I'm hoping I will be able to upgrade a Win 8 computer which never touches the internet, for free.

How did you get a TechNet acct? I thought you had to be in IT.

I might buy the upgrade version if I decide to get it. I going to wait on reading opinions first.

I've had it for 3 years, it was only $149 a year, but they just stopped it a few months ago, but mine was still going....was a Great deal, all of MS software.

So they let anybody join? Sound like a good deal FVB. Any replacement for TechNet announced?

It is scary buying W8.1, usually I know it will be money well spent.

Re: Wondering How MS will handle upgrade to Win 8.1

Heck yeah, I'd join in a heartbeat. I would get VS, Office, Windows, heck I would get a copy of everything for that whole year even if I didn't use some of it.

MS Ticking me off...

Windows 8.1: What YOU must know before you upgrade • The Register

One, I care to keep my Win 8 computer off the Internet.

Two, I don't want to register at a MS Store.

Three, If I do decide to download it, would take a day or more at my
shitty download speed.

Real slow burn here.... Slow but Hot...
Getting ready for a MS boycott.

Re: Wondering How MS will handle upgrade to Win 8.1

Sounds like Intel is developing an ITunes store. Looks like 8.1 is due out soon, time to start reading reviews.
