Re: Install W-8.1 bypassing Microsoft account

Is the MS account separate from the password required to gain entry to the computer?

I can see some problems here!

Thanks... I hope it helps, and makes 8.1 more attractive to those who
want full control of their PC.

A local account needs no password to log on to a PC, only if you want to use one. I just disconnect from my MS account, and closed out my MS account.
Using this method....
Local Account - Switch to in Windows 8 and this... Microsoft Account - Close

Re: Install W-8.1 bypassing Microsoft account

Thanks Skully. If you use EFS like I do, a password to gain entry to the computer is a must. The encrypted file system uses the login password for the encryption scheme. Also, to keep Outlook encrypted, a password must be used. A lot of people use their login, as Outlook will then automatically use it.

So what I read is, the "traditional" login is available for use if desired. MS account is not mandatory.

Which leads me to, if you did use the MS account, is the account password, the password you use to login in to the computer?

All in all, MS is getting closer to the Apple scheme. I trust Apple, not MS, only because of the sheer numbers of users.

"Which leads me to, if you did use the MS account, is the account password, the password you use to login in to the computer?" Yes...
You may need to look into the password thing/encryption... You maybe
able to use a local password for encryption/Outlook. In other words If
you can do it now without MS and the cloud. I believe you can with W-8.1 also...

Re: Install W-8.1 bypassing Microsoft account

Thanks Skully. Hard questions, I'm sorry. However, your chemo brain needs a workout.

Win 8.1 Pro has EFS, so I suspect all is the same.

Thanks again.

Re: Install W-8.1 bypassing Microsoft account

Hey guys, which version of Windows 8.1 is the best to get?

I would like a hard copy and 64bit.

I'll be sure to follow Skully's guide to not installing the Cloud/Live part.

Not sure when I am getting it but maybe soon.

Thanks,

Is yours a retail version on DVD? That is what I will try to get. Looks like it costs $199.
