Re: 27" iMac

Can you update the ram in a Imac, $200 to go from 8 to 16 gig is a ripoff!

Re: 27" iMac

The older models was easier, but yes you can do it yourself.

At a minimum I would get 16G. Plenty for a Mac as the Kernal operates differently.

The expense of this whole thing is what motivates me to move very slow and cautious!

Re: 27" iMac

Which KB/Mouse? I'll just go with the BT versions. I would get a 1T Fusion or 256G SSD.

This should give me more desk real estate.

Whatever was stock...really didn't notice. I can upgrade my rig with motherboard cpu and ram for $750, so if I do that's what I 'll do...

...and that is the precise reason I have not jumped over to Apple yet.

Re: 27" iMac

I'm not in a hurry either as I believe the next refresh will likely take place sometime around the first of the year when the Broadwell chip is released.

Re: 27" iMac

I think the refresh may be sooner.

Nevertheless, this is wait and see time for me.

Your push on Adobe certainly was helpful and cleared-up a few thoughts I had. Appreciate that a bunch.

Re: 27" iMac

Adobe is essential to me as well! About two years ago I bought a high speed scanner, a good quality shredder, and went completely paperless. I was able to completely remove a 4 drawer filing cabinet from my home office. There are only a handful of items that I keep a hard copy of now. I usually scan about once a week and then shred anything that isn't a must to keep. Everything fits in folders that take up about 3GB.
