New Router for Christmas ....WOW!

My lovely wife got me a new router for Christmas (with a little help from me...lol), a TP-Link AC1750 Dual Band Gigabit router from Costco, it was on sale for $99. I set it up in the front room has a wireless access point, I have cate 6 running from the back of the house (my office) to the front room gigabit switch which I have my TV, blu-ray player hooked to, I had a old D-Link n router set up there but it was starting to fail so it was time for a replacement. Using the 5ghz band on my Ipad and HTC One M8 the speeds are has good has hardwired to my rig in the office, unbelievable upgrade, here's a screenshot of my phone and I'm sitting in my office when I took this about 35 feet away.

Amazon.com: TP-LINK Archer C8 AC1750 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router, 2.4GHz 450Mbps+5Ghz 1300Mbps, 1 USB 2.0 Port & 1 USB 3.0 Port, IPv6, Guest Network: Computers & Accessories Amazon.com: TP-LINK Archer C8 AC1750 Dual Band Wireless AC Gigabit Router, 2.4GHz 450Mbps+5Ghz 1300Mbps, 1 USB 2.0 Port & 1 USB 3.0 Port, IPv6, Guest Network: Computers & Accessories

Re: New Router for Christmas ....WOW!

WOW! is right! That's some SERIOUS throughput!

I haven't really had a chance to do any serious work on the network here @ my new digs (GF's house). We're sitting @ 17 Mbps down/7 Mbps up over the wireless network.

I know that the cable infrastructure (wiring, connections) need to be replaced due to age. Also, the hardware here needs some updating. The router is an old WRT54GL, which is pretty dated. When I moved in I locked down network security, set up an Amped SR300 range extender to create a secondary network in my office and improve wireless coverage in that end of the house, (no cable connection in the office), and recently replaced the old modem with a new docsis 3.0 unit.

Now you post THIS! I guess that I'll be running some new coax & ordering new hardware soon...

Re: New Router for Christmas ....WOW!

Nice setup and speed FVB. I am nowhere near as wired as you are in the hizzy but I am actually satisfied with my desktop speed (50Mb/s). I have no need to be faster ATT.

I was actually contemplating for a second time on getting myself a new router a couple of weeks ago. I keep looking at this AC router.

The firmware has much improved from the first time a looked at it almost a year ago. I keep putting off getting it though. One thing I like about it is it can run public firmware. I am looking for improving speed as well to the iPad.

Its looks like a good one, I was lucky on mine it was on sale just before Christmas for $99, the big plus for me was getting it at Costco and there return policy, its like a lifetime warranty...plus I never heard of TP-Link, but they have really good reviews on there products plus 24/7 tech support.
