Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

If I go with the I7 7820X I don't know if a Noctua NH-U12S will be enough to cool it, so I've been all over Noctua's site and came up with this baby. It has a offset for the top PCI-e slot for your video card, and 65mm clearance for ram with tall heatsinks, the Corsair Dominator Platinum is 55mm, so no problem there. Here's a video where a guy is testing it with a 6 core 6800k Overclocked (closest I could find to a 8 core) temps look good to me! One thing about it it is silent but its big....lol

Re: Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

I would stick with the 12S and do a Push-Pull by adding a second fan. The D15S looks huge to me. If you OC, go liquid.

That Noctua is better than a AIO cooler and no pump noise are failed pump, just been watching a bunch of video's on the difference of the 2. here's a thread I started about Noctua on a Threadreeper cpu against a AIO...no contest and Threadreeper is a 160 Watt cpu.

Re: Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

You can go to Noctua and they state that they s do not put out how many watts their coolers handle. I read up on it when I bought my True 120 Direct. The direct is rated at 160W.
You can go to reviews and that is the best source for real tests. If you don't OC the 7820X you will hardly see many instances where you reach 140W even. The Noctua 12S should be more than enough. Since you already have the 12S you can see if it is first hand. It has been proven again and again push-pull fans take off 2 maybe 3C at most.

IMO, if you run your transcoding, games, benchmarks, etc. at stock and you hit 80C then I would look for a new cooling solution.

Re: Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

May be in his case it would be more than 3c - nevertheless, 12S is fine as you indicated.

Re: Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

I decided to keep my True 120 Direct as a backup and get rid of my stock cooler instead.

Re: Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

Well I'm about 90% sure this is the cooler I'm going with 165 TDP compared to a 140 TDP for the NH-U12S and this picture sells it for me...I know its big but it should look good in my White theme rig!

Re: Noctua NH D15S Cooler!

Thanks guys, like you said Jim for Noctua it is beautiful...I got the measurements for the 12 compared to 15....the 12 is 2.8 inches wide and the 15 is 5.3 so not quit double the size of what I have now, same height, since the Apex is a EATX board which is bigger, it should look alright!

That cooler will look awesome in your white themed rig!
It looks like it will complement the theme perfectly.
Cant wait for your pics, once you finished the project!
