Comment on: Motherboard sticker shock

Ok, so recently I got a really good deal on a Sandybridge Xeon lga2011.

For a hundred bucks I got a XEON that sold for over $1,500 four years ago.

At home I maintain three different computers for different purposes, see my sig below.

I figure since I have a second really great XEON, I would pick up another LGA2011 motherboard and replace one of my weaker systems with that.

However, I go on amazon...and find the price of the P9X79 WS to be five, six or seven hundred dollars for a board that I purchased 4 years ago for about $350

It is supply and demand. After four years the only reason a person would be interested in a legacy board is because he has to have it to replace and identical board to keep their system intact. This happens very often and sellers know they can get an extraordinary markup on the item. WS boards are probably the most popular. There are actually companies whose modus operandi is to prey on people in the need. There is a RAM company who does this to. It's called MemoryForLess. I've seen companies sell boards the minute they are available for double the MSRP. They don't sell but the return comes a few years later when they still have them and buyers come a crawling.

Interesting.

All this time I thought those exorbitant prices were postings long ago forgotten.

It's nothing more than the American way...

Greedy god damn capitalists that have found a way to gouge anyone that's dumb enough to pay...
