Re: Windows 10 Install Setup

GW just get O&OSU10 and open it. It will show you have intrusive MS is into knowing everything you do on a PC. I use full version of Office 2013 and now 2016 all for free basically but I do not log on and use any clould/invisible server to store any of my files.

Yes, Google is your buddy. I like logging in and letting it keep passwords and Chrome settings and bookmarks.

Tonight I installed MSI Afterburner and set it up.

I disabled One Note, XPS Viewer & Printer, and set up my power scheme. I set up my audio card and network printer. I am fixing to install CCleaner. Haven't even played with my mobo yet.

Ran Full Defender tonight and it found this on my backup drive.

It mentioned Flashplayer, that website I am sure you guys have seen.

Trojan:Win32/Kovter

You can read the Symptoms and the Technical Information.

Re: Windows 10 Install Setup

Good luck Sandog. Overall, I like Win10. I have some issue with networking due to an update last month. I had to delete my winsock registry entries and replace them with ones from a Win8.1 install because the update corrupted them. An update this month flummoxed my Workgroup connectivity - haven't found a fix for that yet. So my NAS is inaccessible for doing backups - got get that fixed b/4 the end of the month. Otherwise, it's been peachy with a few minor issues.

I've been on the fence about installing Shut UP 10 - if it hasn't caused you any problems, then I'll give it a shot - just been too afraid of screwing up something. I'm probably going to do a clean install at some point anyway - maybe real soon if I can't fix the Windows Networks problems.

Re: Windows 10 Install Setup

Great - I hope it fixes somethings that MS recently broke (looking around the net, fair number of ppl have had problems like mine). This could delay me having to do a clean install

I backup settings. You can do it for your graphics card, mobo, etc. and even Windows settings. O&OSU10 does not install. It opens and you select what system settings you want on/off and it will switch them for you in your registry and that is it. It allows backing up of the registry through a restore point. I don't even do that. I just go in there and choose the default setting which turns all the junk off. If you saw what was in there you would not do without it. It basically shows why Windows is free now. It can pay for itself like Google does by gathering all you information.

Capture.jpg Untitled.jpg

BTW, I went in there to take these pictures and just like I said, Windows changed some settings back. You have to rerun this proggy from time to time. Right now I am in the full swing of auto updates on a new system.

Here's some more garbage.

Nvidia Backend/CPU usage issue, how to resolve? [Solved] - Nvidia - Graphics Cards

What is WLMerger.exe?

The HP scantoPCActivationApp is for scan transfers over the wireless network.

Yeah, I view Geforce Experience as a non malevolent virus
Thanks for the info on the backend.

Thanks for the info on ShutUp10. I've run it using the default settings. Holy smokes - there's allot of telemetry running on Win10

Re: Windows 10 Install Setup

You don't have to install NV Gaming Experience, just the normal drivers to get NV Backend but if you don't allow NV access to the net after the install the WLMerger file will not install. Just check Task Manager/StartUp.

Thanks Sandog. I had some trouble with GF Experience, but I got it sorted an none of my games are experiencing problems right now - next update I'll probably take some action so I don't get more problems.

Oh joy. I hope I wrote down my MS account! I used it for my update, but then set my login to local and turned off one drive. I run weekly backups and like Sandog, I make a restore point when installing something significant - so I don't think I need any "cloud" storage.
