Re: Time running out for free upgrate to Win 10

Skully, thanks very much for your comment. The pleasure is mine, as time permits of course. I had been spending a lot of time here in past months dealing with automated spambots that were placing SEO spam in their profiles, but CG_Admin who has been posting above has been extremely helpful in taking steps that have greatly improved that issue.

Peter, see the following article, especially the last part of it:

Apparently the reason you don't see the fast startup option is that you probably have hibernation disabled. But if that's the case, it sounds to me as if in the process of disabling hibernation you would also have accomplished disabling fast startup, so you should be good to go.

Best regards,
-- Al

Re: Time running out for free upgrate to Win 10

One of the problems I had with Fast Startup was the fact that upon PowerUp, the NUMLock was disabled! NUMLock remains enabled when I PowerUp with Fast Startup disabled.

To change that setting from its default of ON:

Start/Settings/System/Power&Sleep/Additional Power Settings/"Choose What The Power Button Does" (on the left side of the screen)/"Change Settings That Are Currently Unavailable."

Then deselect "Turn On Fast Startup (Recommended)," and click "Save Changes."

Having "Fast Startup" on was one of the ridiculous default settings I referred to earlier.

On all of the four machines I have upgraded from Win7 to Win10 both startup and shutdown are now faster than they were under 7.

Best,

Thanks heaps. I'll try that.

I also found out where to change the font on my command prompt, so that one is no longer an issue. Mostly to me, it's finding the time to check things out and changing some settings.
