There was a Demo, but seems like it's only available for consoles now - no PC demo version to try out

Re: DooM 2016

As to the single player, its a very old school styled shooter.
Its all about shooting, dismembering and otherwise eviscerating the demons from hell. Punchy guns, simple plot and big levels with maze like corridors.
The graphics are pretty and the performance is excellent. I'm playing on ultra settings at a hi resolution in 16:10 ratio.

Basically a series of missions of the "fetch the key" variety, with a simple skill tree and basic commerce features, wrapped around a series of encounters with demons and some cut scenes.
A few objects to stumble over and some good particle effects, but otherwise a very passive environment. Its just Doom style art with very little interaction available. Basically our character just slides over everything with little impact.

Gameplay is a bit of a mix between Rage/Borderlands, Painkiller and good ol Doom.

I dont think the single player can keep my attention. Did all this before in past years, <sigh>. I want more sophisticated plot/story and extreme graphics and physics these days.
Not too many games coming out for adults, mostly for teens and shooter newbies. Every year they get a new batch of kids oo'ing and ah'ing over regurgitated, rehashed and remade crap. I'm forever hoping the Next Great Gaming Experience is just around the corner.

Willing to try mp if you guys are interested.

Steam has a demo and there is UTube but I don't know if you can play them.

I got mine working. If anyone gets it and has trouble I will help. It is a steal for $19, fixing to see if I can get upgrades. Even Steam has it for 50% off but not as cheap as I found it. May have been a Halloween special.

Yeah, I have not started it yet but I knew it would be like that. Still we are playing a classic. ID started it all for me. I know it is not a good MP game either, about the same as single player. Maybe we can find a good game someday that we can all fit in.

I did a few things tidying up in getting this game to work. First off, I am done dicking with ASUS software, it barely cuts it. I have had some issues with GPUTweak as of late and went back to a previous version which does not save the fan profile plus it does not like NV GeForce Experience. There is absolutely nothing wrong with MSI Afterburner and 4.3.0 just came out. I also use a non-signature driver for my ASUS Essence II audio card which basically cuts out the garbage in the ASUS audio program. I also went back to disabling Fast Boot in BIOS. Didn't know I had it enabled really. Also, I found out I have a lot of 32bit software running. I would say mainly. I am surprised at installing Win10 x64 plus all 64bit drivers and still using 32bit software mainly.

Steam is the way to go with games. You get good support, good community, never lose a game, auto updates, etc. I will never get a game box off the shelf again. I use to have the old UT boxes around here somewhere.

That's fine Griff, thanks for posting. It is a good deal vs. $59.99. I probably would not have bought the game for that amount.

Re: DooM 2016

I got this game to stress my card out some. My card sits around the mid-30's C at idle but it is hard to heat up. I ran some tests and could not get it going high enough to kick in the 0dB fans (50C). Maybe DooM will do it. Card runs great, I think it hits 2GHz on turbo and is at 8GHz effective memory and this is stock.

Thanks for trying Jim, if the game does not snag your interest I find you don't want to skill up for it. That happened to me with Fallout 4. I should have put more effort into that game.

That's cool, I saw it at 50% of yesterday on Steam but the place I bought it is just as legit. The key works and I have the game on Steam foreva! Matter of fact, I am going to bookmark that site. Check out the prices. There cheaper!

Re: DooM 2016

Steam also has some good troubleshooting tools. You can clear download cache and also re-validate and auto-repair game installation files if necessary. I also like the shapshot feature (F12).

Re: DooM 2016

Love this ASUS STRIX video card. I don't even OC it and it gets 2GHz core all the time in the game along with 8GHz memory. I stayed below 56C in DooM on default settings at 1440p. I was right to get the 1070, the 1080 would have been nice but I don't need the extra horsepower for my monitor.

Capture.JPG

Here's some bad news.

EVGA GTX 1080 and 1070 graphics cards go up in smoke - SlashGear

STRIX is a custom engineered board/assembly and nothing like reference which is what the EVGA is. ASUS uses the best components as well and has the best cooling.

"The overheating and potential fire issue is linked to all of the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 video card that have EVGA’s ACX cooling solution. That cooling solution doesn’t have direct VRM cooling and apparently that lack of cooling is the culprit here."

Here is the STRIX HS with plates covering the VREG's and memory.

1070strix-8b.jpg

I paid extra for the STRIX card ($450) which is water under the bridge a few bridges ago but I still have lasting peace of mind with this card. Huge default OCer and runs cool and quiet, just like the rest of my PC.

Re: DooM 2016

Played a little more DooM tonight, go around in circles trying to find the new rooms Game is very Doomy. I kinda like the older graphics better where walls were more squared up like Quake. It is hard to tell when you see a bunch of twisted metal and you try to climb it but it just a mural.

I turned everything I could up to Ultra. Game ran fine, card stayed 56C or lower, still good FPS.

Re: DooM 2016

Made it tonight to the Foundry Meltdown. Nice to finally task my video card on something demanding. I hover around the mid-low 50's and my fans come on at 50C so I lowered it to 45C. I kept seeing my fans go on then off then on again.
