Re: DooM 2016

Stuck on a big Boss, may take awhile lol. Doesn't seem to drop out any longer. I unchecked a couple of Steam game properties. Seems to have fixed it and I am back up at my TPU#2 OC.

I did see a reference to Steam Cloud but I am not using that.

Re: DooM 2016

Just completed the game after 46hrs. Awesome game. I could go back and find many secrets yet (only 41% achievement in STEAM). Single player was freeking great, best DooM ever. I am surprised my old butt had the WASD dexterity to slug it out and defeat the bosses. I will have to get NWO in the near future now.

Re: DooM 2016

I have to comment again how well this game was put together. Everything about it rocks. Graphics, gameplay, weapons, and all. It was always filled with excitement and shooting. Best ID FPS ever IMO. It had the scary hellish effect going max level, had nostalgic easter eggs in it if you looked for them. You never had to spend time searching for ammo or health unlike Borderlands. If you ran out all you had to do was pull out the chainsaw and rip a demon in two and every ammo would spill out and if you glory kill health spills out. There were only two guns with zoom and they were not really zoom, more like 2X. Everything was up close and personal lol.

I don't know anyone who ever gamed on a PC and did not know ID. DooM 16 is a very good incarnation of old characters in a modern game engine. I would say it is better for it's time then when the original came out. I would compare DooM's like I would a car. A seventies Cadillac was cool but a 2016 Caddy has all that plus a ton more amenities and new electronics features. Anyway, I was wrong about my initial take on the game before I played it. It was not boring and quickly got me back into FPS fun.

You will enjoy it FVB. Knowing about the game I would have paid more than the $18 I spent. There is DLC that cost more than what I paid for the original game and I might get it later. You might not make it through the big bosses but the secret to the whole game is always keep moving.

Here is a video I watched, it shows the types of easter eggs available that reference classic games.

DOOM: Secret Happy Birthday Party Room Easter Egg! (DOOM 2016 Easter Eggs) - YouTube

Another thing I might add, this is not a continous ladder climb through the same scenary. There are missions with different backgrounds. There is the Mars station (HL2 esque) maps and then there are outdoor burnt wasteland type missions. The Argent Energy Tower mission was one of my favorites. It forces you to become good and searching and jumping, almost like FPS bootcamp lol. There is added content to boost armor, weapons, health, etc.

Keybinds are not too many. All I used was jump, crouch, grenade, and BFG, Use keys besides the WASD and the left/right mouse fire ones.

Re: DooM 2016

I got rid of it after the first couple of Check Point Saves. That really bothered me. May give it a go at a later time.

Re: DooM 2016

I would have given up on this game without the checkpoint saves. There is no way I would have started from the beginning of each mission everytime I died.

I am going to check out the DLC for DooM 16 and then New World Order.

Re: DooM 2016

Hmm, Doomy DLC appears geared towards MP (3 packs). Found it for $24 but don't think I will get it yet.

BTW, DooM now costs $25 now on CDkeys. Still a good deal IMO.

Here's some FYI.

Re: DooM 2016

Checkpoint saves are fine, I still prefer the manual saves. Enjoy your game.

I never saved one time except for starting the game. It autosaves your last checkpoint which is usually the beginning of a hard level. Whenever you start the game that is where it starts off. You can go to the menu to load the start of a mission if you desire.

Re: DooM 2016

I do know when it saves, however, it's at a point that is not always beneficial to me. Prefer the good old F6 saves!

Check out the WASD KB's. Good info if you drill down.
