Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Yeah I was in the middle of my EK block build and thought about buying the CPU but decided to put it off for another year. I could say I wish I had bought it then but I was too busy at the time. Now I am in a better position to sell some items and get the APEX mobo. My original plan was to get the APEX in another year after the new CPU's arrive but now I feel I don't want to miss a whole year with the board. I did that with the RVE10, I waited a whole year before going to X99. I also have the Intel Optane SSD and would like the best possible support for it. I can now check out RAMCacheII. Anyway, I ordered the APEX and 7820X last night.

There is a lot of buying and selling going on but it keeps me going. I messed up with my water cooling upgrade timing and was down for almost 2 whole weeks. I am not making that mistake again. I should have it all completed well before Christmas including new mobo standoffs I ordered. The loop for my video card is staying the same, I just have to cut one hose out. Plopping in the new CPU, HSF, and new memory will be easy and then there is the new Windows installation.

This will be a pretty good upgrade for me. I was bouncing around 5930K, then 6850K, than back to the 5960X so performance was not increasing much. But from reading your benchmarks, I am going to see about a %20 increase in performance and that is with no OC. That is from going to 4.3GHz base CPU from 3.0GHz and going to 3200MHz DDR from 2400MHz. I will be running stock at 4.5GHz on two cores which is higher than I am now. Being at stock I will also take full advantage of CPU efficiency with automatic down-clocking. I will also have great CPU temps at stock and will probably set my quiet CPU fan on high and leave it. I will not have to listen to the CPU fan running up and down when the CPU temp swings wildly.

I am also looking forward to the sharp looks of this upgrade. I already have a black SSD, audio card, and VGA card and I will be adding the black TRUE Spirit cooler and red DDR memory. I had to order another Imperial Red 8pin CPU power cable from Ensourced. I will feel really good about this build since I completed the wiring in the back of the case. Getting new standoffs will leave no stone-unturned and it should make for one well built system.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

BTW guys, when I was looking for memory I was mainly debating speed and voltages between many brands but there was also the 'looks' factor. It would have been a shock but I came close to getting a set of these.

YouTube

Also, the new sticks I got are slightly special edition. They have a red anodized heat spreader on top but they have another 'ROG' feature and that is they have a second XMP profile that allows them to go to 3333MHz at CAS 16.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Sandog you better check the True spirit for compatibly with the Apex, the Noctua 14 would fit but you loose the top 16X slot, thats why I went with the Noctua 15S (it has a offset in it so you don't loose the top slot)....just a heads up! That's the ram I wanted but 2666 with white leds, but I couldn't pass up the Dominator's for $319.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Thanks guys, I'm gonna be a proud APEX owner in a while. Can't find anything on HSF compatibility, will just have to see when it gets here. The Vengeance RAM looks pretty good and user said it is high quality. The thing that turned me off was the LED's go in and out randomly. I don't think there is any control over them.

Re: Asus ROG RAMPAGE VI APEX

Here's what it says about the Noctua....you might be in luck the Noctua is 150mm wide and the Spirit is 140mm. The 10mm difference comes out .39 inches less than the Noctua

Vengeance RGB RAM has Corsair Link4 app for its RAM, also Asus has
AURA that works well with Vengeance RGB RAM...

Well like normal Asus software sucks...Aura wouldn't install right and crashed right off the bat....so I like the lights the way they are....lol Thanks for the link Skully, I'll try the RamCache 2 app next, but I don't have much hope for it either?

Yea RamCash 2 works well, AURA, ya got to play around with it, to
get it to work right. My APEX is running quite well, nice and smooth,
and fast... I hope your happy with yours, I've had two of the other
ASUS mobo's in this series, the Prime Deluxe, STRIX X299-E Gaming,
the APEX is by FAR THE BEST....
