Question Memory issue with performance mode = turbo

Hey! Guys,

I had a question, that you might be able to help out with.

I purchased some of the Corsair TWINX512-3200LLPro memory with my ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard, including the remaining equipment listed below.

My question is? with this memory, I notice that in the bios, I cannot set memory performance to [turbo]. This is without overclocking. My understanding of this type memory was design to work very well with this motherboard. My setting in the Bios are as follow:
memory performance = standard
memory timing= 2.0-2-3-6
pat=enable.

When I set performance mode= turbo, computer boots up with a lot of garbage, and I have to reset it back to standard.

Has any one else had this issue? Or is there maybe a problem with the memory I have?

Any help would be appreciated.....

LDFiberman, many of us have that problem. We have also noticed that using turbo does not really add that much more to the preformance of the machine. However, I don't know if the 1014 bios that is now out addresses this issue or not.

LDfiberman: I too have seen that with Corsair XMS TwinX modules & I sent them packing right along with Kingston HyperX. Beleive it or not, I got the best performance out of Corsair Value Select PC3200. It ran at a FSB of 268 with a 5:4 ratio with no errors.

The Kingston & The XMS both had errors even at rated speeds.

Memory Timing

Guys, Thanks for the information.

I am using the latest Bios 1014, no difference.

I was just wondering if any one else notices this to. I'm not have problems with it. I was just trying to push all timing to it's max with this memory, with out overclocking. You know? "More Power"..............................

I thought it might not make much more difference by setting it to turbo. Just thought I would ask.

Thanks...........

Turbo mode can cause instability. But Asus warns of this. If you haven't done this already, you should run Memtest86 to check out your modules. I once was using RAM similar to what you have, and found out I had a bad stick which I had to send back to Corsair.

Sierra Bound, Thanks for information.

I have check using memtester 3.0, and windows memtest. Both pass with flying colors.

I had just noticed that Corsair says they tested this memory with the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe. So of course I thought, I would be able to make all timing as tight as possible without overclocking. I'm bad. Just was trying to get every inch out of it. Especially when Corsair's website was kind of bragging about it.

I had the exact same issue. I am using OCZ PC-4000EL Gold. I saw no performance boost using Turbo and I had big time instability on boot up.

I don't have the 512mb sticks myself so my situation may not be comparable, but I can currently run my 256mb sticks dual channel, PAT enabled, Turbo mode, CAS 2 , 2, 2, 5 with 2.75v and have no instability problems. I would be upset if I couldn't get less. However, I'm not overclocking with these timings. I end up keeping enhanced performanced enabled, relax timings to 2.5, 3, 3, 7, up the voltage to 2.85v, 5:4 ratio, but still most the time keep turbo on. I have bad luck with standard mode. I've only been able to get mine to 265fsb and completely stable. I can boot to 270fsb but can't get through a PCMARK. Using a 5:4 ratio and staying under my rated speed of 434mhz, I don't see why I couldn't keep the ram timings aggressive. It would be just the same as running just above stock I would think. You know I just realized LDFiberman that I have PC3500 and you have PC3200 ram. I suppose it was a good idea to get ram rated higher than what I wanted to run it at. I probably couldn't get 2, 2, 2, 5 at 434mhz.

Question

piddyful,

That sounds good. But I did notice your using, Corsair XMS PC3500 Platinum memory.

Where as I'm using Corsair TwinX512-3200LLPro with the LED's. Memory timing on it is 2-3-2-6.

I believe your memory timing is much tighter than this mine?

I don't think you are going to find anything to do what you are asking. You would need DDR600 RAM to do it and it does not exist. The PC4000 you have is DDR500 and is at it's "rated" speed at a 250FSB 1:1.

It's more the RAM holding you back if your chip is capable than it is the board. OCZ PC4200 EL Might get you to 275-285FSB at 1:1 but that will be about the best you can do without errors.

Thanks Keri

Im consifering buying p4c800-e thats why i write here. Its a great thread i read the whole thing.I did Bigtoes PAT trick on my P4P800D and it went up max 240fsb.Bigtoes board could overclock around 280fsb hence i assume that the board is involved the problem.Well the point is id like a more overclockable board.
