I'm sorry, I was not clear. Is it:

3 CAS# Latency

4 RAS# Precharge

4 RAS# to CAS# Delay

8 Precharge Delay

4 Burst Length

In that order?

Thanks,

George

....Most ram cannot do Burst length = 4 when overclocked and you won't see any performance for 4 compared to 8 but you can still corrupt data with it........

This would be correct for timing settings on the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe

Performance Mode = Turbo (if your memory will allow this?) This was my question?

Corsair XMS256A-3500C2;
--------------------------------------------------------
Performance Mode= Turbo
2 =DRAM CAS# Latency
2 =DRAM RAS# Precharge
2 =DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay (not; 3)
5 =DRAM Precharge Delay
8 =DRAM Burst Length

Corsair TwinX-512-3200LLPro;
--------------------------------------------------------
Performance Mode= Standard (Would like to see Turbo)
2 =DRAM CAS# Latency
2 =DRAM RAS# Precharge
3 =DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay (Would like to see 2)
6 =DRAM Precharge Delay (Can be set to 5)
8 =DRAM Burst Length (Can be set to 4)

Corsair TwinX512-4000Pro;
----------------------------------------------------------
Performance Mode= Standard (Would like to see Turbo)
3 =DRAM CAS# Latency (Can be set to 2.5)
4 =DRAM RAS# Precharge (Can be set to 3)
4 =DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay
8 =DRAM Precharge Delay (Can be set to 5)
8 =DRAM Burst Length

Every thing else to these setting:
----------------------------------------------------------
Performance Acceleration Mode= Enable
Dram Idle Timer= Infinite
Dram Refresh Rate= 64usec

Tools of the Trade

First of all, I want to say that I've found this forum VERY educational, and I want to thank each and every one of you for excellent posts that have given me some framework before my PC even arrives.

I will be getting a P4 3.2 Extreme Edition based on the P4C800E-Dlx with Bios 1014 in a few days. It's shipping with TwinX-1024 4000Pro RAM, and I have two sticks of Mushkin PC-3500 Level II handy as well (on loan). It ships with a Zalman 7000A-AlCu cooler. I have and am planning to install a Corsair Hydrocool 200 when it arrives.

I've read and digested a lot of the settings and process tips around here, and I wanted to ask a few questions:

1. My inclination was to install the Hydrocool to get better cooling (not too much thermal paste!!!), keep the 4000Pro installed and see how much FSB overclock my processor can handle (w/o changing stock VCore, and running conservative timings, and willing to shut off Turbo/PAT, increase VDIMM, etc.). If I can get an FSB much above 230 (I've heard the Extreme Edition might overclock better than normal 3.2c), my thought is anything much over 230 and most likley the PC4000 is my best choice to optimize around. If I can't get much past 230 (or it winds up under 230!), then the Muskin 3500 Level II is probably the best RAM to optimize around. Can the board comment on my strategy and provide some tips/changes?

2. Testing: I intend to test stability using memtest86 and Prime95. What is recommended for the following: (1) best way to accurately measure CPU temps and other HW specs, (2) best software to measure performance and memory bandwidth

Thanks a lot!

So for me 64T, 64usec works better...

I'm not getting the 280fsb 1:1 I was hoping to get, looks like 275fsb @ 3-4-4-8 is the best this cpu or board can put out. I put some AS3 on the NB and took that useless pad off now so im hoping that lets me get a few more fsb out of it. I've tried every setting in the bios (1014) and just want to know if i missed anything. My 5/4 3/2 ratios work on this board but only as far as my 1/1 so no point in using them. Would this be my cpu at its limit you think?

1a. - I think the OCZ new pc3500 might be a better chioce. It really likes this mobo and you can find info about it in the memory forum........

2. I like Asus Probe for temps and volts. Works just as good as anyother program. SiSandra is the most used for system info and/or system benching - Sandra 2004

BBThumper, nice Memtest scores. At first, I thought 64T & 7.8uSec gave me the best performance. But I too switched to 64T & 64uSec. Even running at Cas2.5, I can still get over 3400 on Sandra unbuffered. I can sometimes run at Cas2, but I get random reboots. So I'm leaving my RAM at 2.5-4-3-7-8 for now.

I used to use MBM5. But it was giving me weird voltage readings. Once, it said my 12v rail was at 13v! Since my CPU and motherboard weren't toast, I decided to uninstall MBM5 and just use the Asus monitoring probe which gives me a reading of 12.1v.

RE: tools of the trade

BBThumper, thanks for your reply. Three things:

1. I considered OCZ PC3500. But if you search the web you can find lots of threads from people who've just bought and tried the new 3500 EL Platinum Limted Edition and got nothing like the results at www.anandtech.com. In addition, many had bad memory and had to go RMA. Mushkin seems to be more reliable - with good timings/performance (not as good as the best results I've seen published for OCZ 3500 EL Platinum LE) - but I thought I'd err on the side of a relatively known quantity. Secretly, I'm hoping I'll have a reason to use 4000Pro instead.

2. AsusProbe - available free from Asus?

3. Hydrocool - do you think, for what I want to do, it's an improvement over the Zalman 7000A-AlCu?

Thanks!

Manual Memory Timing Control

Hi guys,

I'm having a bit of a problem. Does CPU-Z accurately reflect one's memory timings? Because CPU-Z always says 2.5-3-3-7 no matter what I select in the BIOS. Are there some settings in the BIOS that override the manually-entered timings? I do not have it set to use SPD. I'm not that stupid.

Also when I enable Performance Enhancement Mode, or whatever it's called in the BIOS (I forget), my system won't boot even at 800MHz FSB. So I have that set back to "Auto" and my system is stable.

Pertinent System Info: P4 3.2, OCZ PC4000 GOLD (2x512), P4C800-E Deluxe

Thank you guys for any help you can provide
