Very interesting. It almost sounds like when you finally get 4Ghz that it will be more like the Athlon series, like here's a 2.2 Ghz that is rated at 3200. I think I will stick with Northwoods since the Prescott is sounding more like a Willamette every day I hear more about it. Well, only time will tell.

It is interesting, not only is it making the current 800FSB Pentiums 4's look good. It's making the Athlon 64 look really good as well.

I'm sure Intel will throw enough money at it to fix the problems though - it just may take some time. Did I mention this making the Athlon 64 look good

He says AMD should lower their prices to sell more A64's but they have done that since the start and they changed this approach since the A64.
(BTW the A64 3000+ isn't really expensive)

I think AMD's philosophy about it is correct.
When people buy something for a lower price they will assume it's not that good as that Intel/expensive one.

People who know something about it will know the real value and like the low price. But those people are just the minority. All others think that AMD CPU's are not that ?good? as Intel/expensive.

Why should AMD give more than what you pay for and Intel not?

Interesting...but

I don't trust websites that are totally biased. (or source info from biased writers) and to me, that article seemed to be written by a total AMD fanboy/zealot. All I can say is, enough of the speculation. If it comes out great, then that's good. If not, oh well. Not the first time Intel flopped on a new cpu.

Its about the OEM market the article talked about, that AMD needs to think about.

I don't put any stock into anything Ed says anymore. He's been on this High n Mighty, Holier Than Though kick the last 18 months. He's always negative about everything and pretends like he's saving all of us lower life forms from doom should we make up our own minds about anything.

Not saying the Prescott isn't having troubles. It is. But Ed's constant negativity about everything in the PC hobby bores me

Seems what was rumoured is starting to get real:
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=13847

A bit slower (or even) and a lot hotter.
(marginally faster in some exception)

yes, this is what I expected.

None of this is news to me, as I have heard for the past couple of weeks about this problem.

I do beleive that Intel will get it fixed, but it will not be ant time soon.

I am hoping that AMD can come through and do something that put's them over the top. Then I can make a sound decision about going with AMD for my next 1.5 year computer upgrade I am going to make this year.

I would like AMD and appreciate them as a manufacturer if they could suck up their pride and create a HyperThreading(Using some different name) processor.

Why? I have heard that the Athlon64 procs don't have the greatest multi-tasking abilities, is that what you are talking about?

Just kidding. (both have strong and weaker points)

BTW multicore isn't very far in the future for intel and AMD (max 2years).

Don't know how good/bad hyperthreading works with a multicore CPU.

We in an odd way might have a way to compare that now.

Dual Xeons (has HT) vs. Dual Opterons (no HT) - maybe?
