Nehalem launch pulled forward to Sept?
Jul 24, 2008 - 1:30 PM - by polonyc2
DigiTimes is reporting that Intel has decided to launch their next-generation Nehalem CPU in September, with actual product availability slated for October. If true, this would put Nehalem 1-2 months ahead of schedule.

DigiTimes asserts that the move wouldn't affect Intel's current Core 2 lineup, as Nehalem uses an entirely different socket and chipset, but this statement conflicts with their own article from just last week that stated Nehalem pricing would start at $284, which would certainly put pricing pressure on their existing CPU lineup if true. Nehalem is expected to launch at speeds ranging from 2.66GHz to 3.2GHz...

Windows Home Server Finally Fixed
Jul 22, 2008 - 8:03 AM - by SRTDodge05
The fix for Windows Home Server's broken file system finally is released to market

Microsoft's Windows Home Server (WHS) is almost fully back in operation after about nine months of difficulty. The operating system marked the most troubled release of the last couple generations of Windows-branded systems. Now at last it can move over and perhaps fulfill the bright potential that seemed to await it when it was released

Marketed as a home storage solution, and backed with hardware partners, Windows Home Server looked to be a very promising product, putting server style data [Read More]

Intel can drop Quad cores to $100
Jul 22, 2008 - 6:55 AM - by SRTDodge05
We’ve learned that Intel can afford to drop the price of cheapest quad core all the way to $100 but it doesn’t want to do it simply because it doesn’t have to.

Quad core is sexy and theoretically faster than many dual cores and Intel has created quite a nice marketing scam around them.

Most of the time Quad doesn’t mean much faster than dual but people still want to have four cores rather than two, even when it means a lower clock speed.

Intel slashes processor prices
Jul 21, 2008 - 3:32 PM - by SRTDodge05
CHIP MAKING GIANT Intel has slashed processor prices by up to 31 per cent. Price cuts include the quad-core Q6600, down from $224 to $193, while the desktop Core 2 Duo E8500 (3.16GHz) now sells for $183 instead of $266. The Core 2 Duo E7200 (2.53GHz) has been reduced by 15 percent, from $133 to $113.
Although Xeon server processor price points have been lowered, the cost of QX Extreme processors, such as the QX9775 (3.2GHz, $1,499), remain unchanged.

AMD's CEO Steps Down
Jul 17, 2008 - 7:45 PM - by SRTDodge05
AMD CEO Hector Ruiz will be replaced by Dirk Meyer

AMD has seen its share of ups and downs over the years, but the company has had it especially hard ever since its acquisition of ATI Technologies in 2006. Since then, the company has experienced numerous quarters of losses, announced job cuts, and has watched as top executives abandoned the chip giant.
Most recently, AMD announced that it would [Read More]

Hello AMD Socket G34
Jul 16, 2008 - 7:46 PM - by SRTDodge05
AMD's 12-core and 8-core processors get a new home in 2010

AMD's newest roadmap reveals a major shift in early 2010: the company will once again overhaul its socket architecture to make way for DDR3 support.

The new socket, dubbed G34, will also ship with two new second-generation 45nm processors. The first of these processors, 8-core Sao Paolo, is described as a "twin native-quadcore Shanghai processor" by one AMD engineer. Shanghai, expected to ship late this year, is AMD's first 45nm shrink of the ill-fated Barcelona processor.

This past April, AMD guidance... [Read More]
